Prashant Kapoor has some interesting views in a piece on biofuels in today’s Building Design. He sees biofuels as only performing a "marginal role" in heating our homes in the long term. What’s his solution? "We should start by replacing at least 30% of our housing stock with passive designs, and invest in CHP and district heating. It may not be the most glamorous solution, but it’ll be the most cost effective." From the sounds of it housing minister Yvette Cooper, interviewed in Building (subscribers only)today, has enough on her plate convincing the housing industry to chuck up three million by 2020, let alone having a go at 30% of our entire stock.
