I stood up in front of a room of PR people last night… and survived. Only joking. I was asked by the CAPSIG organisation to offer a view on digital media. Below is the presentation, which probably need a bit of context. It was centrally around the challenges that we as a publisher have faced in the past 18 months or so. Digital realism for me means focusing on what us as publishers and journalists are good at and finding digital means to do it. And not trying to do everything. And charging for content when appropriate.. but having to treat our audience as customers not cattle. But digital is also about entertaining as well as informing and educating. That’s the gist. Judging from the number and nature of questions I fielded it seems to be quite a hot topic.

I like the pre- and post-digital realism ideas – but does that mean you think there will be less emphasis on SEO from now on?
Cheers, Will.
